Make your KiwiSaver work harder for your goals

Most New Zealanders are in KiwiSaver, but far fewer know whether they're in the right fund, at the right risk level, contributing enough. We help you set it up properly.

What it is

What is KiwiSaver advice?

KiwiSaver is a voluntary, work-based savings scheme designed to help you save for retirement, and, for many, a first home. The choices you make (which provider, which fund type, how much you contribute) have a big impact on where you end up. KiwiSaver advice helps you make those choices deliberately rather than by default.

We help you understand your fund options, from defensive and conservative through to balanced, growth and aggressive, and choose a setting that matches your timeframe and comfort with ups and downs.

What we can help with

A few of the specific things clients ask us about most.

KiwiSaver fund reviews

Not sure if your fund, provider or risk setting still fits? We review your current KiwiSaver account against your goals and timeframe, and tell you plainly whether it's worth changing anything.

Open a KiwiSaver account

New to KiwiSaver, or switching from a scheme that's no longer right for you? We help you choose a provider and fund type suited to your goals and get everything set up correctly from the start.

Retirement drawdown planning

Once you're eligible to withdraw, how and when you draw down your KiwiSaver can affect how long it lasts. We help you plan withdrawals alongside your other retirement income so your savings work as hard as possible.

Contribution guidance

Contributing enough to get the full employer and Government contributions is a sensible starting point, but the right rate beyond that depends on your goals and budget. We'll help you work out what makes sense for you.

An important note on returns. KiwiSaver is an investment, and the value of investments can go down as well as up. Past performance is not a reliable guide to future returns. Our advice focuses on choosing settings that suit your goals and risk comfort, not on promising particular returns. We currently advise on KiwiSaver schemes from Generate (Generate Investment Management Limited), Milford Asset Management, and NZ Funds (New Zealand Funds Management Limited). You can hold your KiwiSaver directly with your chosen provider, or through NZX Wealth Technologies (NZXWT), an independent investment administration and custodial platform, whichever suits you best. For full details, read our Public Disclosure Statement (PDF).

KiwiSaver FAQs

Am I in the right type of fund?

That depends on when you'll need the money and how comfortable you are with ups and downs. Generally, a longer timeframe can support a more growth-focused fund, while money needed soon (like a first-home deposit) often suits a more conservative setting. We'll help you decide.

Can I use KiwiSaver to buy my first home?

Many people can withdraw most of their KiwiSaver balance to put towards a first home, subject to eligibility rules. We'll explain how this works and how it fits with your mortgage plans.

How much should I contribute?

Contributing enough to receive the full employer and Government contributions is a sensible starting point. Beyond that, the right rate depends on your goals and budget. We'll talk it through.

Do KiwiSaver fees really matter?

Yes, over decades, fees can make a meaningful difference to your final balance. But the lowest fee isn't always the best choice; it's about value and suitability. We'll help you weigh it up.

Should I switch providers?

Sometimes a switch makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. We'll give you advice based on your goals rather than a sales target.
